Ford has engineered several types of all-wheel drive (AWD) systems for its sedans, crossover SUVs and SUVs. Each signature drivetrain is coupled with advanced modules that optimize traction on paved and unpaved surfaces. The Taurus, Explorer and Expedition are some premium Ford models that offer AWD and other high-performance features. These cars are also available with the signature turbocharged EcoBoost engines.

Taurus

Equipped with the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, the Ford Taurus delivers class-leading handling. This full-size sedan comes with sensors that precisely monitor the spin, rotation and other mechanical parameters of the wheels in real time. The drivetrain is synchronized with an automatic transmission that’s fixed to six gear settings.

The Sport Mode and Shifter Button Activation are some new features that enhance the SelectShift transmission. Additionally, the electric power-assisted steering is tuned to work smoothly with the Intelligent AWD.

Explorer

As a mid-size SUV, the Ford Explorer is naturally engineered to handle tough conditions. The Intelligent 4WD system in this family vehicle is paired with the Terrain Management technology, which lets you instantly adjust the axles to one of four modes. For example, the Grass/Gravel/Snow Mode maximizes traction on slippery terrains.

This powerful Ford SUV is available with a 10-speed automatic transmission that includes a unique mode for towing and hauling. The Continuously Controlled Damping stabilizes the Expedition on rugged landscapes.
